CAD Standards

FENNIE+MEHL Architects are standardized on AutoCAD 2002 and unless otherwise noted, drawing files posted to this web will be formatted in the *.DWG format created with AutoCAD 2006.

The layer standards supported are based on the American Institute of Architects CADD Layer Guidelines 1990 version Long Name Format with minor modifications. This format lists each layer first by one letter for the discipline followed by four-letter minor group, four letter modifier, and finally with four letter user field, or X-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX.

For example, lines depicting the existing architectural walls above door and window openings will be located on layer named:

 A-WALL-HEAD-EXST

An example of the layers on a floor plan of a typical interior project would look like the settings found in the following document:

[The full layer standard is available from the AIA at http://www.e-architect.com/news/aiarchitect/october/cadguidelines.asp]

FONTS UTILIZED IN F+M CADD FILES:

PLOTTING F+M CADD FILES:

We utilize layer color settings to define line weights (pen widths) in the final output of the drawings produced. If you would like to set your plotter to match the intended relative line weights you can utilize Plotter Pen Weights (2006)
The following drawing illustrates the original plot settings in an AutoCAD file:

These are illustrated in the following *.pdf file:
