Ned Fennie is co-founder and President of Fennie +
Mehl Architects, and as such he is directly responsible for delivery of all
architectural services, and is the Design Director for his projects. His 30
years of experience include a wide range of projects for corporate and
developer clients, although his primary focus has been in the commercial
sector, and he specializes in renovations of various scales and
complexities, from Tenant Improvement Interiors projects to large-scale
building renovations, seismic upgrades, and additions.
Based on his
thorough knowledge of Type I and Type II construction, he is recognized by
his peers as an expert in building codes and their application, and as such
has given code seminars to a variety of audiences. He is actively involved
in code writing efforts locally and working with code officials and property
owners to forge workable regulations that serve all members of our
community. Ned was recently selected to serve on the San Francisco Community
Action Plan for Seismic Safety Advisory Committee and the Mayor’s Task Force
on Soft Story Retrofits.
Additionally, Ned has a broad base of
experience in the use of computer, information and design modeling
technologies, not only with in-house systems and tools, but also in managing
the design and construction of large-scale data and telecommunication
facilities. Ned supports a strong connection with our community and leads
the firm’s charitable efforts, primarily with the Americans Diabetes
Association Tour de Cure fund-raising program.
Ned graduated from the
University of Arizona School of Architecture in 1980, and while there
participated in the exchange student program with the Universidad de La
Salle in Mexico City (along with his fellow colleague, Doug Mehl). He has
lived and worked in Mexico City, Houston and now lives in San Francisco with
his wife and two college-aged children.
